Jonathan Okwir is a former child soldier who at the age of ten was abducted and trained to kill by the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel guerrilla group in Northern Uganda. Corrin Varady is the head of the World Education Trust, who through starting the Trust, met Jonathan on the side of the road one day collecting charcoal to sell in order to feed his mother. Together, they embark on an adventurous trek across East Africa from the border of South Sudan, through Uganda and Tanzania en route to Africa’s highest point – Freedom Peak, the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. To Africans, Mount Kilimanjaro is revered as a symbol of independence and hope. For Jonathan, the Road To Freedom Peak becomes an extraordinary journey to forgiveness and redemption. Screened on Foxtel in March 2014.
